Carnforth, Christ Church

Carnforth parish church is situation on the main A6 between Lancaster and Kendal.

The original part of the building dates from 1873, but it was extended in 1901 and a tower and spirette added in 1908-9.

During the 20th century, many internal alterations were made and new features added, reflecting the Catholic tradition of the parish.

The Blessed Sacrament is reserved in the church for the communion of the sick and incapacitated and as a special focus for prayer. There is a large statue of Our Lady with a votive candle stand.

The church has a fine two-manual pipe organ, built by J W Walker in 1921, rebuilt by David Wells of Liverpool with additions to the specification in 1999 - 2000.

The east window of the church depicts the Epiphany, and a very unusual feature of the window is that the Blessed Virgin is dressed in red, not the more usual blue.
