East Ham , St Bartholomew
A tall block in dark red brick incorporating a church, day-care centre and surgeries. Three stories of peoples' flats above.
This is a new building replacing the original red bridge church (1901-10) gutted in 1941 and restored 1949-52.
St Bartholomew is a broad and light white-washed space. Its tall roof slopes down towards the altar. Pale ash wood fittings. Side chapel with Crucifixion figure by Bridgeman. Fine polished noble font from old church.
